Maxine Amelia Crow (born 7 October 1990) is an Australian actress. She is best known for her roles such as Babydoll in Sucker Punch (2011), Victoria Winters in Tim Burton's adaptation of Dark Shadows (2012), Alice in the television show Once Upon a Time in Wonderland (2011) and more recently Roxy in Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014).
Early Life
Crow was born as the second child to Mark and Vivien Crow (née King), a Cairns based pastry chef and a travel agent. She has an older brother Mortimer, nicknamed Morty, who is two years older than her and a professional surf athlete, who began his career in his pre-teen. She often cites her brother as a big influence on her approach to life and her career. Her interest in acting began when she was just 10 years old, when she saw her great aunt, a stage actress, perform for the first time during a family trip to London. Maxine was "blown away" by the difference between the aunt she knew and the character, it picked her curiosity. Back home, the little girl that she was enrolled into an after school drama club where she began her training. Following the end of secondary school, Maxine enrolled at the James Cook University in the Psychology program. She spent her first year on the Singapore campus before making it back to Cairns. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in 2011.
Career
Maxine began to pursue a more active acting career upon her return to Australia when she was 19. Prior to this stage, she had been mostly performing and training in amateur level with a local group. While juggling with her studies, Maxine found the time to get an agent and attend auditions while avoiding falling into the endless pit of commercial gigs leading to nowhere. From her great aunt's personal experience and wisdom words, Maxine only wanted to be part of proper entertaining projects, even as an extra, which is where she got her first paychecks as a proper actress came from. She made her proper and big debut in the 2010 horror film Road Kill as one of the four leads. A proud milestone, as many actors first began in the horror field as well. Though she did not have a career trajectory or wishes, it was her guts and what she deemed to be "fun" and "out of here" that she always jumped into, not caring about her status or legitimacy. Not even a year after her starting role, she made her world wide start with Babydoll in Sucker Punch and while the movie itself was poorly received, the 21 year old took this opportunity to pack her bags and head to London for a career change.
The following years the young actress appeared in a Tim Burton production, was the lead of her own television series a spin off of the popular Once Upon A Time ABC show and took part in the new action hero Kingsman: The secret service, as an agent in training herself. While she has somehow became a fun actress to watch, 2016 was the year Maxine proved that she could be more than an entertainer with her role in the independent film Tallulah as the titled character and one of the leading women in The Girl on the Train adaptation. Calling herself an everlasting learner and improver, Maxine is reprising her role of Roxy in the follow up to Kingsman and will join her past co-star for an adaptation of Robin Hood's origin story, as the leading lady Maid Marian.
